Goodbye Texas

After ten days in the Lone Star state, we said goodbye and flew back to Paris. We already miss all our friends. Here are a few last photos from the visit.

Two good friends sharing a book.
The zen-est dog ever, Puck.

Austin Zoo

We visited the Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary. Lucie fed the animals. Her favorite animal was the deer, but we didn't get a photo. Instead, here's her and a llama.
Stella will tell you that feeding the animals is very serious business!
Mina and Louis met us at the zoo.
The zoo is made up of rescue animals. One has to wonder where these tigers were before they came to the zoo. Hopefully not someone's backyard!
Malo and Phoebe happily snoozed through the entire visit. Back in middle school, Brooke and I thought it was funny if we had the same outfits on. Now it's funny that we have the same baby carriers.

Fairies

Back in Austin, Lucie transformed from a cowgirl into a fairy princess.

More ranch pictures

Lucie, not one to be afraid of the animals, wanted to pet some orphan calves, so we entered the corral that they live in, receiving milk from a milk cow twice a day.

The calves were more afraid of Lucie than the other way around. A year ago, when we traveled to a farm in France, she was terrified of the cows and of some of the animals
Malo also partook in the fun, trying on some cowboy boots for size
After Lucie had gone riding, Greg wanted to have a go, and so James obliged again.
Don't be fooled, there's only one cowboy in this picture, and he doesn't live in Paris.

On the other hand, this Paris-dwelling horse carried more than her fair share!

Horseback riding

Lucie asked if she could go horseback riding, and her wish was granted. She loved it.

Ever the gracious host, James had chosen mild-mannered Cisco for the ride
After a while, she made room for Little James on the horse.

They had a good time together, with their matching cowboy boots.

Being Lucie, she had some pretty clear ideas about where she wanted to go
Afterwards, she learned some basic horse care pointers from Katherine.

Visting the ranch

While in Texas, we drove 6 hours south of Austin to visit our friends Katherine and James and their children James and Salome. The highway was very straight and empty. The drive was long but Malo slept the whole time and Lucie watched movies and played car games with us.
It was definitely worth the drive too. It was great to see our good friends. Their home is beautiful and the ranch is fascinating.

Lucie and Salome looking at the calves.

Lucie was in heaven with all the animals. They have over 15 cats in their yard to keep away the rattlesnakes. Lucie loved feeding, talking to, and petting the cats who were remarkably friendly considering they are outdoor (rattlesnake chasing) cats.

Pool time

Stella and Lucie went swimming at the neighborhood pool.
Greg recently took a photography on movement. Please note the way he caught the water from the fountains!

Oh so pretty

Lucie's aunt Morgane gave her this pretty sundress from Ireland. Yes, we all wondered how much use one would have for a sundress in Ireland, but it was perfect for the Texas heat. Lucie accessorized it with her new pink flower barrette and pink shoes.
Perfect!

Grammy and Pop-pop in Texas

Lucie and Malo had visitors while they were in Texas. Their Grammy and Pop-pop flow over for a couple days! We spent an afternoon with them on South Congress.
Lucie enjoyed running around, looking at the funky shops, and eating ice cream.
Pop-pop enjoyed pushing the stroller that she didn't want to sit in.
Malo happily dozed most the day in his Ergo carrier.
He woke up for a short time when we stopped for lunch.
Ok, time for Malo to go back to sleep.

TexasTour 2011 (tm)

We're in the great state of Texas, visiting good friends and fellow bloggers... The weather in Austin is amazing, and after a delightful flight - Malo made not a peep for 10 hours while Lucie gorged on video after video, in absolute quiet and calm, so much so that relieved fellow passengers congratulated us upon alighting... - we've been out and about already, hitting Zilker Park right away and continued our multi-modal journey by boarding a small train. Lucie and Stella, together which Michele and Brooke, had a blast.

Raise the roof!

Lucie and Stella wanted to go swinging, of course. Compare to these pictures from January 2009 to see how much the girls have grown since they last saw each other and went swinging together.

Michele, Brooke, and Phoebe, enjoying the sunshine and nice weather.
Brian and Phoebe.

Later that day, we headed over to Mina and James' house, where Lucie and Rosemary played together in the garden while Malo looked at the trees' leaves moving up above.
