The Dancing Baby
Lucie rocks out to 'Old MacDonald'. She won't let go of the CD case, though...
We're taking a collection to send her to dancing school.
Remember the dancing baby of the early Internet days? Ok, for those of you who are too young to remember, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W4EBoQmWPs

A full day
Lucie's grandparents are very determined about taking her to the park and playing extensively with her. Here she is with her grandma.
She goes sliding with her grandfather.

This game is child's play...
Learning to share her toys with boys.
Playing in the sandpit with another child.
Deeply focused on some important task.
At the end of the day, nothing beats wrestling your papa on the bed.
Judy has been teaching Lucie how to feed herself, wisely choosing the "petit suisse" (white dairy product not unlike thick yogurt - babies love it, and so do papas) over the beet puree that Lucie's insouciant father prepared.
She's getting the hang of it, kind of
An accidentally cool picture.

Slummin' at the Chateau
Michele's parents are in town to help us cope with our nanny's vacation. She's off to Cote d'Ivoire for 5 weeks, and we're basically in a pickle. So they've been doing the needful, and keeping their grand-daughter. We are extremely grateful (Lucie included), and they seem to be having a great time.
We all decided to trek out to Versailles to see the Sun King's old digs, and spend a day out of the city.
Lucie thought that having lunch outside of Louis XIV's bedroom window was a great idea, despite the chilly weather.
Inside, she was only so-so impressed by the hall of mirrors, but she was a good sport and didn't cry or complain.
Note to self: Versailles is crowded in August. Thankfully, we'd bought our tickets in Paris and didn't have to wait in line (Michele's parents are the two backs that you see).
That's right, folks, it's the famous disco baby!
After the visit, Lucie got a well-deserved snack in the park, and Grandpa Richard gave it to her.

How about them apples?
As stated earlier, Lucie thinks that apples are tasty toys. Here she manages the triple challenge of going down and up a small step, keeping track of the apple, all while wearing the really impractical (but oh-so cute) dress that her mother has put on her.
Unfortunately, most of the videos from our vacation, including a few of Lucie eating seaweed and such, are not appropriate for public display. Private requests can be honored, if the videos aren't too big.

The longest post: Lucie's summer vacation
Lucie learned lots of new things this summer. One of them is an unflinching interest in flowers. Here she is, about to learn that some roses come with thorns (actually, mom intervened just in time: lesson postponed).
The big news, of course, is that she's really on her way to walking. We can only hope that she doesn't figure out the next step too quickly. She's already a menace as it is.
Lucie went windsurfing (kind of).
She went rock climbing (remember folks, she CANNOT walk).
As this was a beach vacation, Lucie went to the beach (where else?)
She studied the various components of the sand, deciding which ones were edible (most of them, it turns out).
"Who needs parents?"
Waving at someone (or something) all while screeching at top volume.
Like a good little Breton, she's not afraid of cold water, and waded in on sunny days. Here with Armelle.
Hunting for crabs.
Kneeling in her own pool.
Generally having a blast.
"Allow me to demonstrate the eating of a piece of rock"
"Doesn't my father look silly?"
When you're cute, you get your picture on the Internet...
Two tanned ladies, despite the fact that the weather wasn't all that.
Lucie's become quite the little actress. Here is her 'pick me up' routine, courtesy of Michele, who wasn't swayed this time.
"C'mon mom, pick me up!"
"I miss you so badly down here"
"I promise I'll clean my room..."
"fine... I'll do the dishes too"
"this is SOOO unfair!"
"nobody ever picks me up! nobody loves me!"
Ok, we admit it, she's cute, and so sometimes we pick her up.
Lucie's a good little baby, and she lends a hand in the kitchen.
Lucie got to hang out with Greg's family. Here are cousins Clothide and Thibault, and aunt Armelle. Thibault was a real hit with Lucie, who would coo and clap her hands every time she saw him go by, and give him real hugs.
Once an American, always an American.
What's Lucie eating? Well, it depends on the moment you ask that question. In this case, they're blackberries from the neighbor's fence.
Here Armelle is feeding her a crab leg (technically a spider crab, but whatever).
Lucie loves green apples, which she gnaws at for a while, carries around as if they were balls, and generally will not part with them.

More Lucie Movies
Lucie crawls about. More precisely, she zips across the floor. (note: this is from the 14th of July weekend).

Lucie and Gatsby, BFF
These movies were made mid-July, while Lucie's father was in Algeria.
The situation is so dire without the head cook around that she has to resort to eating cat hair...

Long delayed pictures
In Quiberon, Lucie took to exploring the garden with uncle Bertrand.
She got lots of loving from her grandma too.
Sometimes, a baby just needs a drink.
The following week, everyone was off to London for Morgane's going away party. Morgane will be attending Columbia's Law School for a year. Congratulations!
Grandpa had volunteered to take Lucie back to his hotel and babysit her. Around 11pm, everyone was in the street looking for a taxi.
Back in Paris, she took to eating a whole tomato at once. She spits out the skin, though...
