Vroom, Vroom - Lucie and her car
Lucie loves toy cars. She's figured out how to make them roll and so cars are her favorite toy right now. Her American Granddad can relate to this passion. He also has a soft spot for figuring out how to make cars roll.
Lucie where's your car?

Back in September
Lucie went to friend Magali's wedding in and near Marseille, where a professional photographer took this picture.
During the party, Greg got to make a fool of himself by singing sea shanties with the bride and a group of (stone sober) revelers.

Late in the night, there was a ti punch emergency... notice the lime juicing technique learned while watching some TV cooking show. For those who want to try it at home, ti punch is a martinique/guadeloupe drink composed of 1 part sugar cane syrup, 5 parts white rum, and as much lime as you want/have/can juice without staining your shirt.
The next morning, Lucie kept trying to upstage the bride.

Birthday Party
Michele threw a birthday party for Lucie. Greg provided the muscle... Lucie was a bit confused as to what to do with the candle.
We had a gaggle of children (and their parents) over. Michele made American cupcakes, which our French guests politely ate without blinking.
When it was time to leave, cousin Fanny was sad to go.
She figured maybe she could take little Julie home with her.
Meanwhile, Lucie was busy checking that the party was going well.
At the end of the day, she was one tired baby...
Later in the week, Greg's college friend Matt, his wife Anja, and son Nico came by for a visit. They are on a one-month Stuttgart vacation from San Diego, where they live.
Nico's alreay quite the drinker. Is this what they teach kids in San Diego?
The following weekend, Dadah (Greg's grandmother) came to town on her way to Turkey with her niece. Who says that being 83 is a problem? In any case, she wanted to see Lucie, and she did.
Bertrand was also there
In the end, Dadah thought she might be able to run away with Lucie, but we caught them in time.
Michele, Lucie, Christiane (above-mentionned niece), and Dadah.

Lucie playing
Lucie is now a pretty solid walker, which means that we get to chase her around the playground as she steals other kids' toys (like that car).
She's also starting to care about stuffed animals. She now likes to sleep with a blue dolphin that's a gift from her Floridian grandfather.

Happy Birthday Lucie
How old is Lucie?
Lucie's grandparents showed up for her birthday, and she skyped with the others (how very 21st century...). She was showered with presents.
In the morning, she got to open some other presents. The advantage of having Michele as a mother and Michele's mother as a grandmother is that they both love (love!) to give presents.

Various pictures
Apologies, Lucie fans... our home computer has gotten full, and so we've been stuck for a way to upload pictures. Here are a few that you've missed.
On what seem to be rare occasions these days, Lucie sleeps like an angel.
Discussing the eating of parsnips and sweet potatoes with papa.
Michele got Lucie a toothbrush and Lucie loves it. If you have a one year old, and you need the ultimate pacifier, use a toothbrush. The only problem is that taking said toothbrush away will inevitably de-pacify the child to the utmost degree. You win some, you lose some...
Lucie and her nanny, Elise. We really like Elise, and so does Lucie.
Lucie eating a zebra tomato very deliberately (no zebras where hurt in the taking of this picture).
Lucie eating. And for those of you who wonder what language I speak with my daughter, you have your answer (it depends).
Lucie walking. This video is from sept 25th, and she's already gotten significantly better. It's amazing how quickly they learn... In her hand, she's holding the enveloppe of the card her great-grand mother sent her - thanks Grammy Jean!
